mKoppe bv: right from the start since 1910

Our family business is rooted in the early years of the 20th century. The nursery was founded by Marinus Koppe back in 1910. His grandson, Bert Koppe, runs the business today. Over a period of more than 100 years, the company has grown from a small family business to a leading breeder and supplier of Begonia elatior propagating material.

For a long time, we were a production nursery growing various varieties, including Begonia elatior, as pot plants. Since the mid-seventies, however, we have specialised in the propagation of begonias. To improve the quality of our assortment of begonias, we launched our own plant-breeding programme in 1987.

Since 2004, mKoppe bv has been leasing the newest part of the former Klaas Visser greenhouse complex in Aalsmeer in order to satisfy the demand for propagating material. For a number of years now, we have also been running a cuttings production facility in South Africa from which unrooted cuttings are flown to the Netherlands every week.
